According to reports, one actor has pulled ahead in the race to become Marvel’s next Spider-Man.
In a recent Instagram post, Latino Review‘s Umberto Gonzalez indicated Asa Butterfield is — and has been — Marvel Studios’ top choice for the role of Peter Parker upon his arrival to the Marvel Universe.
The news isn’t that new as Butterfield was recently included in a rumored shortlist which sprang up on the Internet last week. With that said, the new report indicates the other four choices – Timothee Chalamet, Nat Wolff, Tom Holland and Liam James – are potentially no longer being considered candidates for the role.
For those not familiar with his work, Butterfield has starred in Martin Scorsese‘s “Hugo” and the big budget “Ender’s Game” adaptation. One unique aspect about his potential casting is he will actually be more close to the age of Peter Park in real life versus Toby Maguire, 26; and Andrew Garfield, 28; when they made their debuts as the titular character.
As of now, rumors have Spider-Man making his debut appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War,” which begins shooting in Atlanta in a few weeks. The first installment in the new Spider-Man franchise hits theaters on July 28. 2017.
